The Old Country Dumes Family Tree In Viski

Dumes History in Viski

Or more probably, I should probably say "Dumesh History in Vishki", as this is probably how Dumes was pronounced. And Viski is pronounced Vishki, though often written as Viski. The Latvian alphabet has 33 letters. They have two types of what we'd called an "s", one written as "s" and the other written as š, which is pronounced "sh", and this is the type of "s" in Višķi.

Ok, on to the good stuff. This is the raw data, basically. One needs to sift through this to understand how all these people connect to each other.

If you want to cut directly to the chase, here's the family tree in Viski.

FYI, "LSHA" stands for Latvian State Historical Archives. These numbers are the reference pages of where this data came from.

In Vishki on Rizhskaya street in the house of Dumesh (the house was wooden and covered by wooden tiles) lived:

  1. Dumesh Chaim, son of Schaye-Wulf, 40 years old, born and registered to Vishki, literate in Hebrew, learned at home, glazier and cabman (it is very rare to have 2 professions named. I'm told that "cabman" somewhat confirms the story we've heard that he had a business delivering packages on horse and wagon)
