At the top of the tree are brothers Chaim (A), Jossel-Leib (B) and Schender (C). Each generation adds a letter; the letter represents your birth order, A for the 1st, B for the 2nd, etc.
So Sarah, first child of Chaim, is AA. Her husband, Jacob Kaplan, is Aa, the lower-case a indicating that he married into the Dumes family.
I've also used the lower-case letter for my two step-sons to indicate a non-bloodline Dumes relationship.
Michael Stephen Dumes, 81, of Newnan passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Sacred Journey Hospice. He was born April 1, 1942, in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Solomon Dumes and Evelyn Swimmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Denise Conrad, and his stepmother, Rose Evelynn Aldridge Dumes.
Mr. Dumes honorably served his country in the Navy and later worked as an airline mechanic for Eastern Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Lockheed Martin Marietta Georgia.
The graveside inurnment service, with military honors, is 3 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Georgia National Cemetery. Rather than flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to either the Alzheimer\'s Association at www.alz.org or St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.

Survivors include wife of 54 years, Linda Saunders Dumes; daughters, Heidi (Kyle) Jackson, and Kimberly Dumes; grandchildren, Kendall Jackson, Conner Jackson, Gavin Davis, Garrett Davis; brothers, Ricky Dumes, Randy Dumes; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help anybody in need.
