At the top of the tree are brothers Chaim (A), Jossel-Leib (B) and Schender (C). Each generation adds a letter; the letter represents your birth order, A for the 1st, B for the 2nd, etc.
So Sarah, first child of Chaim, is AA. Her husband, Jacob Kaplan, is Aa, the lower-case a indicating that he married into the Dumes family.
I've also used the lower-case letter for my two step-sons to indicate a non-bloodline Dumes relationship.

How do I put into words what an extreme loss this is for me. I'm not sure I can. As I held Mom's hand and watched those final breaths, I'm pretty sure I entered into an alternate universe. She is my Mom. As I spoke to her saying "It's OK, Mom. You can go, it's OK." My head was saying "I don't want to let go." As I see it, I'll hold on tight. Your biggest accomplishment was being Mom to Meredith & me. But then, you were a Bubby to Sidney, Max, Lillian and Mark.
I always said I wanted to be at your side in the end. Well, I was. Me. Erin. As time goes on, my heart won't control my head. But…I'm me because of you. I will see you again without pain, suffering and confusion. This was your journey & now I'll try to do mine.
Remember I love you, I miss you. That will never change. Writing this because you made me strong, even though I feel weak.
